Endorsed Ministries are ministries by those affiliated with the Metro Coalition. Many of them are grassroots ministries started by ELCA parishioners. Their missions are consistent with the synods and the Coalition. They have sought this status, have met the criteria established by the Board, actively participate in the leadership and life of the Coalition and report regularly to the Board on their progress. The Coalition is committed to coordinating efforts to promote and publicize their activities.

Ministry Snapshots and Volunteer Opportunities

The St. Louis region is blessed with a wide variety of ELCA Endorsed Ministries to serve those in need within our community. These ministries are a blessing to the people they serve. Each ministry is experiencing a tremendous need for volunteers at this time. Volunteer opportunities range from one-time to weekly opportunities. Please contact the Metro Coalition Office at (314) 725-9710 to learn more about how you can be a blessing to others through sharing your time to serve those in need through one of these ministry opportunities.

Community Mediation & Neighborhood Peace Center - offers mediation service to people in dispute throughout the St. Louis area as well as provides community-building programs in the Columbia Elementary area of the JeffVanderLou neighborhood in north St. Louis city. Their mission is to spread a ministry of reconciliation in St. Louis whenever and wherever they can.

If you are interested in learning about skills that help in conflict transformation and in learning to be a facilitator of such transformation, please contact us about serving as a Community Mediator.  We are willing to train individuals to co-mediate disputes between neighbors in the St. Louis region (training 32 hours, volunteer opportunities – once per month for 2-3 hours).

If you have a green thumb or like to work with children, or like to weed (yes, there are people who like to weed!) than the Columbia Peace and Hope Garden is the place for you. Come help out as little or as much as your schedule allows at our school/community garden which is making a green impact in the JeffVanderLou Neighborhood of St. Louis.  Contact Rev. Mary Hellwig at (314) 533-3550 or email for more information about these opportunities to help.

Immanuel Lutheran Church - is located in the inner city of St. Louis, committed to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Immanuel provides Worship, Christian Education and Sunday Morning Breakfast Program to feed those in need, Prison Bus Ministry, Narcotics Anonymous, and a Food Pantry.   Prayers and visitors are welcome to support this inner city ministry.

Volunteers from local churches are welcome to partner with the congregation of Immanuel to provide a Breakfast Program on Sunday mornings to feed those in need, supplement their Food Pantry with food donations, and enrich their church service with special music on Sundays.  Other volunteer opportunities include cemetery maintenance (from supervision, grass cutting, to chain saw cutting of trees), interior maintenance and re-modeling of the building (from striping floor in basement, to painting, to remodeling bathroom and repairing plumbing), VBS volunteers, grant writers, web master, speakers at breakfast times, and people to run and support a capital campaign.  Immanuel would be a great place to do mission work.

For more information, contact Rochelle Patterson, Administrative Assistant, at (314) 381-8771 or email Rochelle.

Lutheran Campus Ministry (LCM) - Reaching out to all Lutheran students and welcoming all who are interested, LCM seeks to help students celebrate God’s love in worship, to serve others, to ask questions, to develop friendships and community and to become leaders in any of these areas.  LCM offers a “place of grace” in the Lutheran tradition.   We do all this because we are convinced of God’s unbounded love for us in Christ Jesus. Students are welcomed into ministry with us through worship, fellowship, and faith connection/community service opportunities.

The leadership teams at Washington University and St. Louis University are undergraduate students involved in the planning, leading, and evaluating LCM programming. They welcome ideas and more leaders! LCM would also like to have someone to help coordinate and schedule student volunteers. If you are interested, please contact Pastor Rebecca Boardman at (314) 863-8140 or email.
